The Club have for many years been prolific in developing the youth of South Liverpool at all ages and levels to ensure the future of Handball in the North West and we understand the importance that Handball can play in the community.
Our School Development Programme has been running for the last 5 years and so far, 6 schools in the south Liverpool area have benefited from Liverpool Hope's initiatives.
Indeed, Speke (Parklands) Comprehensive School were coached to win the under-16 2003 Liverpool International Tournament.
Running alongside the Schools Programme has been the development of Liverpool Hope Community Handball Club.
This has been running since 2001 and has offered the children of Garston an opportunity to try out a new sport and to provide an alternative to hanging around on the streets.
The children are coached by a number of ex-internationals who are still playing the sport. In addition to this training, the club have taken the children to a number of competitions which have been held within the North West of England over the years, and have also hosted many tournaments themselves.
Whilst we encourage success, this is not of paramount importance, and we foster within our teams the importance of taking part and enjoying the sport.
Indeed, the club has recently seen it's young players represent England girls under-14 and under-18 levels, as well as under-18 boys level, playing against the world's best sides such as Sweden.
In addition to this, Liverpool Hope's club coaches have been active in encouraging local youth to take up sport as an alternative to causing mischief and we have in the past years been heavily involved in community initiatives such as Streetsafe, Summer Splash and Youthpoint.
For the adults, the club were involved in the campaign for a smoke-free Liverpool and have been awarded grants to promote healthy living and no-smoking within the club and its environment.
Our intention
We would like to contact each junior and senior school within the Speke Garston area to promote the club and to initially deliver leaflets to all residents within the Banks Road estate.
This will enable us:
To promote Handball as a way of creating a healthy lifestyle amongst parents who live in Speke and Garston.
To encourage children within Speke and Garston to take up Handball as an alternative to hanging around on the streets.
